Memory Foam Mattresses Buying Guide

Memory foam through the years underwent advancement. From the time of its conception to be used by astronauts in NASA, it is now in the homes of ordinary consumers. Memory foam has become readily made affordable to the market because of the many manufacturers that enter the arena. It means that consumers can now select from different company that has the best price for their budget; however it also produced lots of inferior products. It is but natural that competition can be stiff for all the players in the market, and by that means that a lot will do all marketing and advertising tricks to lure customers in buying their products.

Memory foam exhibits many advantages over the normal foam. First are the comfort that it provides to sleeping and the quality of sleep one gets from it. Much importantly are the health benefits wherein sleeping problems are addressed such as sleep apnea and people that have been immobilized can now easily sleep without the burden of pain and also getting bed sores. Pressure relieving property is one good thing that it can provide than any types of mattresses.

There is no ideal thickness of memory foam to firm foam ratio but the best in terms of comfort and support is about 3 inches of memory foam; which is good enough to conform to the shape of the body. It is good enough to mold the body and the cushion is right and the body will not sink so much because the higher or the thicker the memory foam, the deeper the body will sink in and it can be uncomfortable to some and may cause some spinal problem. The lesser it is, the firmer it gets and may not be beneficial. The density should also be right enough because before the higher the density of the memory foam, the better it will last. Today, many producers also make lower density with the right durability. Many said that medium density foam of 4 lbs of density or lower is soft enough and the 5 lbs or more density tends to be much stiffer. The temperature sensitivity for lower density still has the same property of spreading out evenly. The higher density memory foam is too expensive for some and is only recommended to people that have back problem.

Although recently, it is tested that 4 lb density memory foam can still provide enough comfort as a 5 lb density memory foam, so the reason for paying a much higher density foam is not anymore relevant. It was proven lately that some manufacturers are scamming people by putting lots of fillers like clay or sand in order to lessen manufacturing cost but still cost like the memory foam that is made of high-grade materials. It is truly not beneficial to consumers because the quality is really way below standards and will break up easily. Customers should be wary of this so-called memory foam imitations.

Many people are asking if they can purchase just the topper and not the whole mattress itself. Generally, if the old mattress is good and firm enough, then a topper is all the customer needs. But if it is already too hard or has defects already, then buying a new memory foam mattress is the best choice.
